1  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Toughest Place You've Dog Hunted on: August 17, 2015, 09:15:52 am
Toughest place i have hunted is down in the catcus country I hate it. Don't have a problem catching hogs in it I just hate it.

X100
I have seen a good number of "jam up" hog dogs and even more Hog Doggers come back to the truck with their tails between there legs cover up in cactus thorns. In my opinion it takes a pretty hard dog with some brains to stick with a runner it some of the big cactus country around here. Especially with the weeds being head high and can't see 3 feet in front of you.

Friday night I met up with JT's Bowman, Harry Thurman and Dusty Goble and went out to place just north of town. We kicked so e dogs out on a wheat field and road around the outside. About half way around my Tiger dog opened up about 300 yards and ended up running him back to us to about 200 yards and bayed solid with the other two young dogs.
We walked bulldogs in to 50 yards and sealed the deal on the Big Nasty. He was pretty rank!

4  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: a couple nice boar and one BIG NASTY on: June 01, 2015, 02:09:14 pm
Thanks guys... Hopefully we can catch a few more the next week or 2 the shut down and take a breakthrough rest if the summer!
5  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / a couple nice boar and one BIG NASTY on: May 30, 2015, 05:41:39 pm
Jt Bowman and i took a few dogs last week and ended up seeing this single boar in a wheat field. he saw us and hit the brush we put Tiger and Jts young Odis dog and they tracked him down and got him shut down at 300 yards. sent css from 50 yds sealed the deal. luck he didn't have any teeth he was pretty scrappy

Jt, Wade Montgomery, Wyatt Walton and I hunted the Summer madness Benefit hunt Hooligan Hoggers put on for Chad Hatchet.
first thing Sat. morning My Tuff dog struck  caught and held this Toothy Boar at about 200 yards in a briar patch while Jts Young Otis dog hammered down on em.. We ended up only catching 4 more sows between 100-160 lbs and a couple shoats. We didn't have enough weight to win it but had a good time hunting for a good cause.
sorry about the fingers. that was the hand sign we had to do for the tourny pics

This Last Boar is a HOSS... We dumped3  good dogs on a wheat patch and they ended up rolling out right at a mile and split baying. We had to drive around to them and it ends up benign about an hour before we ge† to the first bay. The first one we get to is my Tiger dog and a friends black dog we send watchdogs and catch a nice boar around 200 lbs with some nice cutters. He cut my Red bulldog pretty good in the mouth so we stuck him and got back to the ranger to get him taken care of and didn't get any pics. The other 2 dogs rolled over to the other bay and hammered down for another 30 min before we got to them. Sent My old CD sookie and a Young rookie CD of my friends and end up catching this Big Hoss. We got him tied and weighed him  that night at 310lbs.

I know people say it all the time but this picture really does him no justice he was a TRUE STUD..

6  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Rank Boar for a couple first timers on: May 06, 2015, 01:22:52 pm
I had the opportunity to guide a father and son from Pennsylvania on their first hog dog hunt! We started out slow and had just one little pig caught but ended up striking this good boar of of a freer late in the night. He tried to run but my yella dog catch dog Tuff got him shut down in the middle of a wheat field. He is pretty roughed up and will be on the DL for a hit but will be alright!

These guys were as pumped up as have ever seen and will be back next year! We tied the hog first but the kid decided he wanted to get the skull done so we let him stick him!

I have owned 5 as pets and tried hog hunt with two of them. I have the the same experience as ybm.

have always been interested in the pit cross.

Ybm, is there a right/wrong or personal preferance on which way to go on the breeding.
male pit x female ridge or femal pit x make ridge

Shotgun do you have a pic of your cross?

12  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / 2015 hunts on: February 12, 2015, 02:24:43 pm
Haven't posted in a while and had some downtime at work so thought I'd post some pics of some of the hunts this year.

First hunt of the year I was a solo hunt with one older dog Tiger, A young gyp Girl, and cd Red Man! Struck this boar in a waller at  around 500 yards off a wheat patch walked Red Man all the way In to the bay and watched for a little bit then as soon as I sent him the hog busted went about 100yds and stopped and a feeder fence where they sealed the deal!

Jt Bowman and I bayed this nice sow on the creek with Tiger and a few young dogs and My Tuff dog pulled the lead out of my hand from about 400 yards out so we we hauled ass to em and got her tied.
She went 217 and the buyer and brought $123

Had the opportunity to hunt with a great group of guys in Monty Bennett's Tournament he put on!
It was a great weekend full of great dog work.. I was really impressed with the string of dogs we put together and every dog and everyone came together to make a great team!
We ended up with 2nd place 979lbs on top 5
Thanks again to Cole Davis, Jt Bowman, Harry Thurman and Derrick Rowell for letting me be a part of the team. Had a hell of a time!

Red Man and Tiger

Coles dogs struck this boar in a thicket and he busted out right to us. I Sent My Yella catch dog Tuff to the Boar at about 75yds to shut him down but as soon as i let him go he went right back into the thick. They went over a mile up and over a big hill before they finally got him shut down. Tuff had him caught for a pretty good while before we got another bulldog to him! He took a pretty good beating and was cut up pretty good but nothing to serious. His p&p vest saved him for sure!

Happy Hunting in 2015 to everyone!!!

13  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Pure BMC that will catch? on: October 14, 2014, 04:20:32 pm
Good looking dogs man...where you from?
14  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Pure BMC that will catch? on: October 14, 2014, 02:39:42 pm
Sure wish somebody had a sure enough straight catch yella gyp they wanted to get bred...I would sure like to get some pups outa my Tuff dog before its to late!

I know everyone has there own terms but i like to call him a FINDER/HOLDER. You can put him on the ground by himself and he will wind or take a track strike his own hog, bark a couple times then catch an ear.

You can also lead him in and use him as a cd alone and he can get the job done.

I have been hunting for the right female for a pretty good while now but nobody seems to have on that sure enough straight catch! I guess I am just going to end up putting him over the right leggy athletic pit or some "rcd" style dog

15  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Fast hunting dogs on: September 30, 2014, 03:21:51 pm
Track speed has always been one of my favorite things about my Tiger dog and the family of dogs he comes from!
16  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Penny x Swish pups @6 weeks on: August 13, 2014, 10:50:31 am
Just an uptake for a couple who have asked about the pups.

This is Girl at 9 months.

She is the only one that I kept out of 3 pups. The male is with Cole Davis on his yard and the other female went to another hunting buddy but she jumped out of the truck at high speed and isn't with us anymore!

Still high hopes for both of these pups. I haven't had a whole lot of time to hunt her yet but she does awesome on a drag and has shown lots of traits that I really like to see on a pup! Lot of drive on a track and a really good loud mouth!
Both should get plenty of work during the fall through spring and we will know a lot more about them. Only time will tell!
