1361  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Let’s see your recent litters of pups on: January 05, 2021, 09:57:24 am
I like it! My old Vegas dog got bit on the tail about six inches from the base and I couldn’t get it to heal for anything. I finally docked it about 2” from the base. Best thing I ever did. No more whip in the face when he was riding the front rack of the wheeler lol.

Watching puppies run and explore like that is one of my favorite things to do. Those are excellent looking pups. I gotta ask, are the tails short or is that my old eyes lying to me again because they will do. After I shaved yesterday they told me I was a handsome son of a gun!

Glad y’all had a good hint for her birthday. She was probably just glad you didn’t bring Britt lol. I’ll give it to you bud, those black dogs are uniform and  super good looking rascals. That’s the visual signs of a good breeder.

Wish everyone had that much sense. It goes that way pretty often when people see that your trying to do things right as a hunter. Glad it started well for y’all.

Old man, nothing about that hunt sounds fun. I’m not mad enough at hogs to hunt at night anymore and that ice in the hair sounds like it just might have been pretty dang chilly! Sounds like your dogs were sure enough trying and working hard.

That thick sawgrass is perfect for an ambush on the part of a bad hog too. The dogs are in his lap before they know it.

I remember hillbilly from other posts. These pics would download when I was reading earlier lol. But Hank is nice dog too. He has a real purdy head shape.

It’s confusing because it’s an all of a sudden thing. I may get them to try that dex to see. I’d sure like to know for sure what it is. I guess the only way to know that is a vet.

I’m glad you got him and the dogs are gonna be ok. I sure like the looks of ole hillbilly and steel. I remember hillbilly sneaking waaay out and breeding my female over in Georgia lol. Sounds like this boar could’ve been a jealous husband.

I need feed back. My buddy has a dog about 3 years old I think. When he’s turned out to run, his eyes begin to swell and look like they are going to pop out of socket and then he goes stone blind. I don’t know if it’s something like a heart issue or if it’s a virus type issue or what. I’ve never seen this before in all my 48 extremely young years. Have any of you or do you have ideas/opinions about it?

1374  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Pink nosed cur dogs? on: December 30, 2020, 09:11:49 am
Doesn’t matter but does this male have pink pigment or is he the standard black trim. That’s pretty interesting that he’s still producing. Tells me he likely has partial vision anyway. I don’t know the history but if he’s all that and kin to your dogs, I would at least try to buy a collection or two off of him. Depending on your goals and determination, it would likely pay off down the line. Freaks don’t usually produce more freaks, but it’s always been my philosophy to breed to the extreme to get the high end of average. It doesn’t make sense not to breed to a freak if everything else is right. JMO

In the catahoula/leopard type dogs the lack of pigmentation is usually closely associated with deafness and blindness. Pink pigment and no hair color on the head is almost a guaranteed that the dog will be deaf or blind or both. I don’t know how far away from that the pink pigmented yella dogs are.

Lol that’s a good time when everyone can take it and fish it out too. I think our dogs hunt so we don’t talk $$it to them too lol.

Brit are you saying she just looks innocent and that she is really not? I know you’re a little sweetheart and would NEVER do anything that could justify someone being hard on you. I guess you just can’t judge a book by it’s cover.

That pink or red pigment isn’t going to affect her. I don’t know what the registry standards are on that but it doesn’t matter if she performs and you aren’t trying to raise registered dogs. If the breeder likes them as much as he says then you may be all the better for having her. It is a recessive trait that’s why it only shows now and then. It takes 2 dogs that possess that gene being bred together to get it. Even then it won’t produce 100% and when those dogs are bred back they shouldn’t produce it unless bred to a dog that carries the gene. As said, line breeding will expose lots of things.

I understand that. We’ve probably all had that sentiment before. Another thing is, if there were 4 cur dogs on the head and depending on which way the hog was facing etc., he may not have been able to get on the ear in that kind of thicket.
