21  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Farming question on: April 23, 2014, 12:40:46 pm
Dependon your crop for a start...seed prices vary immensely. Corn is very expensive seed to buy,we just put 40 acres in for grain corn 12 or 13 sacks at 250 bucks a piece, then 400 pounds of fertilizer to the acre and will have to come back through and spray round up in a couple months, Where as oats,  wheat, barley etc your seed will only cost you around 17 to 19 bucks a bag and let it rip. We will combine our own crops but if you have someone come in it can cost anywhere from 26 to 30 bucks an acre to harvest and depending on what other equipment they bring in(gravity wagon, tractor etc) may be a lil extra. I will tell you this though, crop insurance is a good investment,if you go into drought and the crop don't produce you will be compensated for the price of a harvested crop,as long as the seeds germinated and came up out of the ground to begin with. what type of crop are you considering???

Amokabs...yes they were a couple of my catch dogs...The dog on the left of screen came off alan scots yard,he is by his "mikey" dog out of "star" and the blue eyed dog on the right came straight out of the hood in dallas tx. Both super high prey drive and I guess just like me they had an appreciation for cosmetic upgrades Wink

Justin, that post I was referring to was by jfork on page 2 under "3 bay box project" you will see the dropdown hinge part on top
28  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: dog box design, input/critique welcome on: March 04, 2014, 07:13:11 pm
From what I can see on your plan it looks like the "gate" on top actually swings like a gate, just my 2 cents...but I think it would work and look better if you hinge it at the bottom so it drops down over your closed doors, you could use the rong pull type latches to secure it,the was a post on here recently of a badass aluminum box someone bilt and that top storage part had a drop down hinge like what im thinking of,anyway, worth checking out, either way you go I think your gonna have a nice setup!

About 90 bucks worth of tubing, the mesh is just some horse panel, and the diamond plate was at a buddys place from an exhisting project so we cut some shapes and riveted it on. The hinges and latches I got from a trailer manufacturing place down the road, they just come in a packet, about 18 bucks and they use them on trailer toolboxes etc.

31  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Im very vey sorry.......... on: March 02, 2014, 07:17:59 am
I just wanted to say how sorry I am to my veteran friends in this sport and to those stand up men and women that truly love the dogs and do the sport justice. I just witnessed a video on facebook of a teenager in Atoka Oklahoma throwing a young bulldog off a high bridge onto the hard ground below to die because it "wouldn't catch hogs". This is the very thing that will put an end to it all very soon,i retired my pack a short while back and have transitioned into some staghound varmint dogs for enjoyment,i simply can not understand why these kids feel the need to buy a dog box and a bulldog and call them selves hoghunters, never knowing the front end of a good dog from the rear!!!!! If anyone knows who the responsible parties were or anyone involved with the filming etc, post up what you know.......these maggots need to be run off from this game for good,or everyone is going to lose!!!!!!! Rant over.

Quarantine from U.S.A to Aust. takes longer(sometimes 3 to 6 months) because we don't have rabies over there, when they come from Aust. to the states it is a lot faster, cost around 800 bucks for a grown dog to get to Los Angeles,or about the same price for a pair of pups in the same crate, then you have to find transportation from LA to wherever they have to go,im thinking about bringing something back with me this time, just not sure what yet. Would have to collecet a lot of stud fees off a good bull arab to make the cost worth while.

Old time dog man told me to count the hairs in the moles under their chins, cant remember the rule now, something along the lines of 1 hair was no good,2 hairs was always a consistent dog and 3 hairs would take time to turn out but would end up being the best in the pack, ill try to find out from him on that one.
