7  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: buying good strike dogs on: July 15, 2015, 05:33:48 pm
i might have given him to Donald since he gave him to me in the first place but I have never taken anyone else around here who contributed spots to the partnership.without fail they hook up with cooler people who they feel more lotyalty too and its not long before they let them in on where i took them.then they overhunt the spots and run the hogs out cause they are too stupid to know that if you only hunt once every week or two in a spot the pigs stay around a whole lot longer and you have few dry runs over time. I'm not jealous of others dogs but I would hunted him him until he died he would not have been sold. I hope these pups i got out of him before he got killed amount to something cause i only have started young dogs now and a old crippled dog.
8  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / buying good strike dogs on: July 12, 2015, 11:23:37 pm
I have sold a couple decent started dogs that I knew would turn out but i was in dire straights and had to sale (I didnt sale my best first though)something but I think unless you luck into a dog that hasnt been given a decent chance you arent going to buy a real good dog. you might get a ok dog though. pups are the only way to go. if you can find someone with good dogs and buy a few pups instead of buying a 600.00 dog or 1000.00 you have a pretty good chance that you will get a decent dog if both parents hunt real good and bitch has 10 pups you at least have a 1 in 10 chance of getting something worth owning. buying dogs that are grown its more like 1 in 100 chance. good dog to good dog is almost bound to produce one decent one. if two good dog by two generations gets bred odds just get better then mix in a little tight line breeding even better.. maybe im crazy because i've spent several grand trying to buy into good strike dogs and it just dont happen. it can happen with pups though. I had a good three year old get killed the other day. he has found hundreds I really think if it came to it i would have culled him before i let him go because he was mine. Sounds mean but thats the way i felt. no chance of him being sold or any other real deal dog i've owned they are to hard to come by.I got him for free as a puppy form donald breckenridge because he was a runt and he was being nice. It was like the difference between driving a mope head and an escalade. he found and bayed five seperate times the lasrt time i took him and on a three to four mile stretch all together. I want TO AWSK A QUESTION. how many of you have ever sold your best strike dog or even a really solid good one? i'm asking to give some of these new people buying finished strike dogs an idea of how few sales a good finished  one.

if you don't like the dog It will never work for you period. every really good track dog I have ever seen had a little bit of extra fire or something even as a pup, They were different. a gut feeling unadulterated by second guessing is really suppressed experience that is trying to make its way to your conscious thought process.Blood tracks to me are the first phase. Early as possible. the ones who take it immediately have an genetic desire to use their nose independently . everything else can be developed by handling (for the most part) the desire to run a track has to be 100 0/0 there at birth. So thats what I look for. if its there then I know the dog wil do something. hasn't been wrong yet.

I dont think i would have done what he did though it was real crappy not to help him. he should be fired for that. especially the comment about him still being alive.

I know some older cops are decent people but city/county cops by in large are just glorified firefighters. Dorks from high school. Every cop I have ever met does nothing but brag about hurting people when you get to know them. I just read a comment that said something about crystals degree and avocation not being good enough to pass judgement on barney fife. that kinda attitude is exactly why most people don't like cops.I can tell you have a horrible attitude. Sometimes a person can get tunnel vision when they are to close to the situation and someone not as experienced at fbi stuff but more objective can see the situation more clearly.I'm sure screw driver guy made many bad choices in his life leading him to that point but there are an awful lot of cops that  do not have any sense what so ever.
16  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: some thoughts on crosses and tinkering with non track breeds on: January 01, 2015, 06:17:26 am
You kinda defeat yourself if you spend all your time shuffling dogs like playing cards. I agree with you shot gun. I recognize my own haste too often and sometime don't give a dog a good chance.  I guess to each.... their own. I sure like my curs. it's pleasurable hunting! was given two more pups yesterday! raising puppies from a good proven line is the way to go if you ask me. it's just to hard to find a good finished dog for sale. It's like panning a cess pit for small change. The running hog issue only goes so far. they are still hogs despite being able to adapt to an extent, there is a limit on how much in a short time span. I know there is a genetic component to a hog running but i think its much more learned behavior. I caught the same red spotted boar hog twice in water with thick brush and couldn't get in to grab him got a hand on his leg once but he pulled away before i could get a solid grip. ended up without rough mature dogs for a while due to shuffling my pack. so I bayed him solid three more times over a year with pups and didn't get him killed for one reason or another. I can promise you when I get him found he don't wait around, he leaves and you can pick your dogs up in the next county. he wasn't a runner,he stood and fought five times and was caught first time for half an hour in water but he learned and if someone hunts where i do for the first time and gets on him or a few others dog ruined. they would swear these hogs are all born runners but it's the unknown variable causing the problem. like bad dogs ruining bays and educating the hogs. if i lay off a spot for a few months the running stops when i come back.some of my spots almost no one hunts because their aren't many dedicated hog hunters in mo. I get to experiment on some of these things I feel like.
17  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / some thoughts on crosses and tinkering with non track breeds on: December 26, 2014, 04:55:18 am
I've thought about crossing stuff some but I've noticed it usually only happens when I am on a bad streak. A person can work awfully hard trying to reinvent the wheel. If you know where some dogs are that are what you want then it's much easier to save your money and buy into someone elses breeding work. than experimenting and putting so much time and money (years) in your own. You really are hurting yourself in the long term by crossing two drastically different breeds. I think you lose more all around than you gain. There are plenty of dogs out there bred for generations for the same traits. You just have to find them and lay hands on their pups. Ive  tinkered around with crosses just like anyine but If a good dog lacks something be it a cat bmc or what ever it's smarter to me to find a good solid line to breed to that has all the basics plus what your missing.I've only pig hunted for six years but I;ve hunted with dogs all my life.... I know this, when you have a really good set of dogs or even one good dog you just want more of that line. I paid a lot money and raised several litters trying to get my own perfect dogs and got very limited success.I had a runt given to me by a friend who is fairly well known for his curs. he is my lead dog. I don't even want to go hunting without him. I have had two more pups given to me by the same guy both are well above average. I caught nine in two hunts with an old beat up rough help dog two nine month old pups and a real good strike dog.  the pups ran track and bayed three of those without help.on a garmin they look like torpedoes seeking a target. If i have a dry spell i'll be thinking about good crosses out of frustration but I really have good dogs.I didn't do anything but try not to ruin what others worked hard for. I just enjoy the benefits. my crosses did the job but they weren't bred for generations for the traits i wanted so that little extra something wasn't there. The difference in dogs is the difference between a Cadillac and a pinto. I will deffinatley do some of my own breeding but it will be cur to cur I guarantee you. I'm not in the dog breeding business i'm in the dog hunting business and any breeding is secondary and only necessitated by the primary purpose. It is a great feeling when a pup just hunts and does it and you just get to set back and watch them get better and better. know one has to tell you when you find the right line of dogs or the right breeder of those dogs. You will know it when you see it because you don't have to do much the genetic dispositions in the dog just go to work and you only worry about how not to screw it up.

when you enter in to his rest it all works out! I have gotten to hate that feeling when I'm obsessed with some hobby or something I want. I like that peaceful rest I feel when I just let jesus work in my life and my family.psams 37:1 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.

2 For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.

3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.

5 Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.

6 And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. IT HAPPENS I PROMISE!

she catches hard on ear and has to be stomped and pulled off she is around 5 months but straight catch at three. she walks like a cat and holds her tail straight out and twitches it like a cat. she is also hands down the easiest training dog i've owned. she has it all deep chest and lots of wind. gonna be a big tall dog with thick boned legs and pure muscle. i saw a male dog she was out of and he was called puma. i can see why he walks and moves like a big cat and so does she ! I looooove this pup! I cant wait until she gets them teeth set so i can put her in the woods. I been wanting a dog like her for a long time. she was just given to me papers and all.I been hunting alot less these days because I've been getting more involved in ministry and serving other people. I hunt alot less but get hogs nearly every time now and in alot higher numbers I keep getting good dogs just given to me. I only have one dog i payed for on my yard and I didn't manipulate anyone to get them. they are all worth owning and hunt good.No skill of mine made it happen i spent thousands and alot of wasted time on my own and got mutts! I just felt like making a public confession of how good god is and see what you thought of this pups looks.
