THE CLASSIFIEDS / THE DOG TRADE / 5 month old pups for sale.
|
on: February 11, 2022, 11:05:21 pm

One male, and one female available out of a litter of 9. All black in color. 75$ located near Bryan Tx. I am keeping 4 and the other 3 went to buddies. Born Sept. Had two rounds of shots. Dewormed them all again today. Both parents are the real deal hog dogs. They are out of my Bitch foxy, 1/2 cur from an old school line of cowdogs and 1/2 lab supposedly a high power hunting bloodline lab. Dog they are out of is my old Newt dog, retired, old, half deaf, but still shooting live rounds luckily. I tried this breeding in 2020 but she didn't take. This time it worked out. I doubt there is anyone more prejudiced against crossed up dogs than me, but somehow I ended up with a half lab. But damned if she hasn't been a real nice hog dog for me otherwise I would have never made this breeding. I want them to go to good hunting or working home. Price is negotiable to the right person. Message me on here if interested.

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Newt dog for stud
|
on: May 27, 2018, 12:59:56 pm
|
I am putting my Newt dog out there available for stud. This is not a money deal, though I may want a pup or two out of a litter. In the past I have held this blood line pretty close but I just don't keep the number of dogs or hunt enough the make a very big impact on keeping the blood line around so I guess I gotta change my ways.
Cur gyps only. I would prefer them to be stock bred curs, atleast somewhere in the recent past. Newt is a medium-long range strike dog depending on your definition. He's out of some old line cur dogs from around Anderson. Has more bottom than I really want to deal with on these small places these days definitely need a radio tracker on him he will get out of pocket if run just a garmin on him. Has some finesse, will windmill groups but get tight on single hogs. Definitely not a bay buster. Will catch with other dogs but straight bay otherwise. Was a little rougher when I started him but he got wrecked a few times, learned and has let some of that go as he got older. He will roll out pretty nice if he is tuned up good but not quite as good as some of the better gyps ive seen over the years. He's got as much drive as a man could really ask for in a dog and has shown to pass that on to pups out of him. My dads main btch is out of him and my Snapper dog who I lost to kidney failure was a dang nice hog dog out of him. I also have a one eyed gyp littermate to Snapper who is pretty nice that I might breed to the right stock bred Cur dog. He definitely passes on the drive and bottom to his pups.
That's the good. Here's the bad.
He is a little mouthy on a hot track when he is fresh but nothing terrible. He could handle the heat better if you ask me I really gotta watch him when it gets hot or leave him at home as he will keep going until he overheats. He's got a bit of a bad attitude around other male dogs and even with me sometimes when I discipline him in the kennel or dog box. Definitely would not call him a family dog or pet, although I think I could have done a better job of nipping that in the bud when I was raising him. He could also have a better handle on him but I guess that kind of goes hand in hand with the other stuff. My Snapper dog out of him had a great nature about him and handled real nice for what that's worth.
I would prefer gyps that are stock bred and silent running, as I am wanting to move my dogs in that direction and bring out more of the handle, finesse and stock handling ability that comes with it. Don't really care if they are close range as long as they do hunt and find hogs or cattle. Handle, good nature, stock working ability, and drive are where its at for me. Stamina and heat tolerance are up there too. No jug heads, mutts, curly tails, running catch dogs need apply. Just Curs don't matter if they are black, yellow, red, brindle or leopard. Newt is black and tan in color.
PM me if you have any questions. Pictures to come

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Help Mosquitos!
|
on: September 19, 2014, 09:27:23 pm

Mosquitoes have gotten BAD out at my place the last few days. They are pestering the dogs like I have never seen. My kennels are in the most breezy spot I have. I removed the shade tarps from the sides to allow the breeze to blow through better to hopefully get them some relief. Put some fly repellant spray on them which seems to work so-so. The OFF I put on myself while working only seemed to work so-so as well. These are some hungry mofos. Usually a few skeeters don't bother me and the dogs can just tuff it out but this is a different story. I plan on buying some cedar shavings to put inside there houses. Anyone have any other tips too keep the mosquitoes down. Some of you coasters surely deal with this on a more frequent basis. Thanks. Waylon

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Winding Only Boar Hogs

Also it is instinct for Cur dogs to key in on the animal that is trying to run off. I bayed a big group earlier this spring and while I was watching, a boar cut out of there with the dogs in tow. Got that boar killed, but meanwhile the other hogs were making a track. My old gyp rolled on the group and had 4-5 of them bayed down a ways.
Some dogs just prefer boars over sows. I suspect it has something to do with the smell.

HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: The Spaniards are coming?

Very cool photo . Where did you dig that up? Would love to see that dog standing up. I do believe that the cur breeds go back heavily to some kind of Spanish dogs. After all cur dogs originated where the Spanish colonized N America. Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. The ancestors of the Spanish alano perhaps?

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / March hunts (picutre heavy)

I took a Buddy from the Northwest hunting this time. Had Newt, Paris and a pup along. Dad brought a few of his along We hunted hard all morning and eventually got into some hogs and had a race....the dogs split. Newt came bayed by him self but the hog busted before we could get close. Paris was out past a mile across a small river. Eventually I got the dogs rounded back up and headed toward the truck but tried one more spot before moving on. We got this sow bayed with Paris, Newt, and Nat in a bad thicket. We put in a good bit of work and a few busted bays but sealed the deal. Paris and newt Got 4 hogs this hunt. Came bayed on a big group and the hogs sure were chattering when I got there. There was around 6-7 big hogs along with shoats and pigs. I watched the dogs work a bit, they were making a big windmill around this bay. My male pup was getting some good work in. After a while a good boar busts out of the group and the dogs with him, they shut him down not too far out. About the time I got there Paris rolls on the rest of the hogs and my dads chigger dog catches. The pup does not have much of a clue and not much help on anchoring this hog and this boar keeps throwing the other two off. After about 10 minutes of trying to leg the hog we got down in a creek and I called newt off the ear and shot the hog. He went about 200, not much teeth to speak of and only put a few dings on the dogs. Paris was bayed at .6 miles and I headed that way. As soon as we got in ear shot the others joined her and the bay stayed solid. When I got there we had 5 hogs bayed backed up into a brush pile. Got some video on my phone but photobucket wont let me upload. This bay reminded me of that scene in old yeller where the hogs were bayed backed up to the bluff and fighting each other. It was a very pretty sight. I shot two out of there a boar and a sow and the dogs rolled on another of the sows. They had her caught in a retro-net wire fence about 100 yards out between the barb wire and the net wire. As I tried to pluck her out of the fence she shucked the dogs, pushed up the net wire, and the race was on again. Newt went under with her but the other got blocked by the net wire. I tossed them over and they got her stopped again about 400 yards out. Was a wet sow. Caught the dogs off, she's still raisin'. Sold these two for bbq hogs. Never went back to get the first boar. Got three hogs this hunt. Caught these two and brought them out for puppy training. One sow for the cooler. got windy and called it a day. My male pup did well again. Got 3 again this hunt. Started with a boar with pretty solid dog getters. The Chigger dog caught him like a fool and we were lucky I was close as he would have done a number on the dogs had that not been the case. I legged him but had a heck of a time throwing him by my self. Not real big but pretty dang stout. He put a pretty good lick on Paris. Dad got there not too long after I threw the hog. After I stuck the hog we got paris caught and while I was tending to her the other dogs rolled on a smaller boar. Dad went to the hog and I took Paris to the truck. By the time I got back they had another small boar caught. I had a female pup on this hunt and she stayed with the big dogs the whole time. Just a few dings on the rest of the dogs. the boar with my female pup teeth My dads dogs and the load
