I bowfish the trinity river a lot, we usually scout out some spots by either boat or a lot of time just walking, we do pretty good like the other guy said, just wadeing around and keep at it, you will eventually find something lol
4  HOG & DOGS / HOG HUNTING CONTESTS / Re: TDHA, Los Cazadores and Blake Granberry... on: January 14, 2014, 01:06:49 pm
its obvious that either one of two things is happening here, 1. they don't give a damn, or 2. they had no idea about the TDHA tournament, but I think It would be best if the others reconsidered there tournament dates, the TDHA is a BIG Part of dog hunters, jmo
5  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Los Cazadores Marranos Muertos on: January 14, 2014, 10:31:20 am
yea but I am pretty sure that there tournament is no where as big or as important as the TDHA, I just think its an easy choice if I had to chose but like Justin stated, its not right to make hunter pick and choose like that but one thing Ive realized is moaning and groaning does no good, so all we can do is just wish them both best of luck.

7  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Energy!!!! on: January 13, 2014, 08:26:21 pm
Ive heard aot of guys that give there dogs honey before the hunt. its kinda like a hell of a sugar rush. I usually just hunt the dogs then change them out and let them rest while I used two others and keep giving them breaks

15  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Successful hunt??? on: December 10, 2013, 08:13:44 am
I also agree, growing up with deer dogs and hearing that race for what seemed like days, makes the hunt the best, now I get the point of getting in and catching a hog right away is fun from time to time when you are planning on hunting a short time, but hell when I go I make it a point to hunt as long as I want to, I love hearing them dogs in the distance working a  cold trail.
16  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: How do I teach a dog to roll out on another hog on: December 09, 2013, 03:00:55 pm
I totally agree, I also think its genetic, ive had some dogs that would shoot out of there once caught but hell Ive had some that would follow it until I loaded it up. I think that its possible to train them to do that but I just have no input on how lol. I know that some guys dream of dogs that would roll out after caught but not all dogs will do it. Its really a coin toss on getting your dog to it.
17  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Breakin pups off deer on: December 02, 2013, 08:41:01 pm
you there are several other ways that I have tried as well but I feel like this way is so the most efficient way, the hotwire works as well if all else fails
18  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Breakin pups off deer on: December 02, 2013, 05:56:11 pm
ive had some problems with this in the past, ive found out a lot that when I run pups I run one pup at a time with my older dogs and let the older dogs show them what trail to take and so on. my older dogs wont go near a deer lol so I think that's my best training method for pups in my opinion
19  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: The famous line from wanna be hog hunters on: November 24, 2013, 10:52:14 am
one of our best catch dog gets more cuts from running through the briar bushes then catching hogs, I guess he is one of the wanna bees tho, cause he don't get cut up all the time, lol. when he catches he knows how to move his body and position his self were he is not gonna get cut, my thought is a good catch dog is a smart catch dog, and will learn where and how to catch and hold with out getting cut. just my input tho
20  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Walkers who uses them want some insight on: November 20, 2013, 10:34:52 am
I was raised with hounds all my life and my dads to this day still calls me nuts for running yellow dogs. But like he tells me its hard to find a hound with quality and traits that they used to have when he was growing up. I love running me some hounds no questions askeds, aint nothing like hearing some hounds in the thickets singing that one of a kind sound, but like I stated above its hard to find hounds like my dads and a lot of the old timers had back then. My dads hounds all came from deep Louisiana and now its like they all vanished. That's just my opinion tho
