This is not over the counter but if you know some horse people you could probably get hold of Ace Promazine . 1cc will normally lay them down enough to work on them.

Toby, It was out pleasure to be able to hunt with you, Wesley and the rest of your crew. I cannot say enough about your hospitality and your gracious wife putting up with us and disrupting your home. We had a blast and you are right about those Palmettas. It's amazing that the dogs can run through them at all. Y'all really have a fine place to hunt. I have never met a better mannered kid then Wesley. Larry and I were talking on the way back how respectful and well mannered he was. Defiantly a son to be proud of. We will sure do it again.

Happy  Birthday Deputy Dawg. Here we been thinking a Border collie was making the rounds but with that water entry Ole Outlaw must have some Lab in him. What in the Sam Hill is going on over there. lol Sounds like another good hunt.

T dog. What do you ride when you are hunting over there? A golfcart?
7  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: Later start on: March 27, 2024, 01:10:30 pm
Anytime you catch 8, that is a great hunt. Ole Cannon is going to make a hoghunter for sure.

T Dog  Hank's claim to fame is his ability to run a hog down. If it can be bayed he will do it. He has that all day stamina to really keep pushing and even in his advanced age, he is still the dog to beat.  So far the only difference I have seen in him is he doesn't quite recover as fast from those all day races. I have hunted him with a lot of other dogs over the years and he has gotten ahead of all of them. My Showtime dog and his daughter are about the only dogs I have seen that can run with him. I know there  are some out there, I just have not hunted with them.

I never did consider Hank a gritty dog. The last two years tho he has gotten gritter. He has started catching 120# hogs and under by himself. Dont know why that happened but the last couple of years he has sure gotten scarred up.

Nice hog Mike!
What are in your shirt pockets? You carry two Garmin handhelds on you?

Lynel

LOL I was carrying Andys Garmin. When we turn the bulldogs loose, it is almost a even bet that Andy might beat the bulldogs in.

T dog, That was a pretty cold track. I still dont know how the dogs didnt rig it. The wind must have been wrong. We have a excuse. It wasnt daylight when we rode by there in the morning. I actually saw the tracks about the same time the dogs rigged. When we were tracking him down the road you could see where we had ran over the tracks coming in with the side x sides. Ole Hank at almost 9 years old is still showing the young dogs how it is done. He is most hog hunters dream Plott. He trails silent. Only time he opens is if the hog breaks and runs. A few weeks before when we were up there Roux got on one by himself and ran that hog all over the country. About 3 1/2 hours of running and probably 45 minutes of baying and he can sure clock them off. That was about a 200# boar. Thanks everybody.

Hunted with Larry Smith, Charles, Chris Powell, Mike the Knife and the Lil Lake crew. Saturday we ran a good boar all over and he finally left the club and had to go around and catch the dogs. Sunday I got a strike and found a track we missed going out that morning. Tracked him and got him off the road and put Hank down and Charles Roux(off Hank). They trailed out about 400 yards south, then about 600 yards east and split. Hank ended up crossing the road headed north. Went about 400 yards and hooked west. Probably went 600 yards or so and bayed the hog in his bed. Walked in about 200 yards and the hog broke. He crossed the road and they packed a couple more dogs to him. He bayed about 60 yards off the road and we got 30 yards from him and sent 2 bulldogs. Caught hog and he was a tank. Really good Barr. Went one more spot and caught a 90-100# sow.

Got a call from Blake Joiner. A hog had got in this 300 acre Fox pen a few months ago and they had a Field Trial this coming up Weekend and wanted him out. My buddy Andy from Wisconsin and his two kids, Blake And a couple of his friends met us at the gate. Went in and got him jumped. Ran him 2 1/2 hours and they caught him. Heck of a good race.

It was good news from the Vet today. He said Chief was up and moving around pretty good today. What gets me is that pup ran for a good 45 minute to a hour more after being cut. There was one time around the hour mark that they showed bayed but it didn’t last more then a couple of minutes. Those dogs are way tougher than me. I would have been bawling on the side of the bayou waiting on a boat. lol. Barring infection he should be fine. That’s what got my Hillbilly dog. A month after being cut his stomach got infected.

15  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / 3/19/24 hunt on: March 19, 2024, 08:39:55 pm
My buddy from Wisconsin was down and I invited Michael Fionella to come. Decided to hunt the marsh since we had a cold front. Turned Yellow loose and he started trailing a hundred yards in. Ran a mile or so and the hog swam. I dumped 3 pups behind him and caught Yellow. Those pups ran for two hours in big circles and when they got close
I toned them in. One of them Chief is a Littermate to Highwaters dog had some pretty serious cuts and a huge hernia on his flank. He has an appointment with the Vet first thing in the morning.
Went down a ways got a strike and turned Hank and a pup loose. They went and jumped. Ran a couple of hours and we saw it. A 60# shoat so I toned them in. Went down a ways and turned Showtime out and he was bayed at about 200. Went in and caught a 100 # sow. Went down the bayou and turned Showtime out again and he jumped, ran about 300 yards and bayed 15 yards off the bank. We caught another 80-100 pounder. We were going to call it a day cause gators were out. Saw about 15. On the way in got a good strike and turned Hank out and he went a 100 yards or so and bayed. Getting the bulldog s out and just started to him and it broke. Turned yellow in and they ran about a hour and the hog beat us across the bayou and we caught the dogs. It was around 4 by then.

18  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / 3/16/24 Hunt on: March 16, 2024, 06:25:00 pm
Charles Gaines, Myself and Mike the Knife got invited by Pat and Wayne Sanders to make a hunt on their lease. Pat had a Plott killed the weekend before. First turnout Yellow and Roux( Charlie s dog) trailed off and when they were moving good,?The Knife turned in one of his. They Trailed this boar to his Bed and bayed. We went in and caught him. Nice boar with teeth but never got a dog cut.
Charles and Pat went across the road and got one going. Two hour race and Bayed. Boar an easy 250# plus. Went in and caught him. Got a feeling this was the dog killer. He cut dogs and killed Charles Plott pup.

The littermate I have to Highwater's pup is pretty gritty and has been cut up a few times already. He has learned to back up on a big hog tho. Those two are out of my Showgirl female. I just consider her average gritty. She will bite one to stop it and back up and bay. she will latch on tho when the bulldog hits. I have a female pup that I call Sassy. She is out of my Trumpet dog. Trumpet is the grittiest Plott on my yard. The only way I have seen her bay is by her self in a thicket. She is almost catchdog rough. She really has thrown nice dogs. My Yellow dog and Tracker are both out of her from different sires. Anyway Sassy is wound about as tight as they come and she really has the grit. My third pup I call Rip. he is out of Auburn. He started out gritty but a couple of minor gashes and he bays nice. The two males have already figured out the relay game and the littermate to Highwaters pup has relayed out twice and caught his own, They were not big, a 15# pig and a 40 # pig but for a 9 month pup, that's not to shabby. Sassy has not figured out that part yet and you just about have to use a break stick to get her off.  All three will go hunting on there own. Still have some trash problems to work out but they will get it.
