1  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / LSU wins College World series on: June 22, 2025, 07:22:47 pm
Been kind of slow on here so I thought I would post on LSU. They played great all the way up to finals and were lucky enough to win the series. Arkansas and the Costal Carolina played great as you would expect just to get there. Carolina did make a comeback and had me worried but the Tigers prevailed.

Sounds like a great trip with plenty to see. How long were the flights over there? We just got back from Alaska and the layovers in the airports are not fun.

Good looking pup. Pretty loud color to him.

Once again you are piling them up. Those young dogs will be sure enough hog dogs before long.

You better get you a few more Plott dogs down there and start hunting those Man killing bears.

On Monday, one or more black bears killed Robert Markel, an 89-year-old man, along with his dog, in Collier County, according to MyFWC Florida Fish and Wildlife.  This is the first known fatal bear attack in Florida's history.
This attack comes as the FWC is considering restarting regulated bear hunting for the first time since 2015 in response to the rapidly growing bear population.

That is a sharp looking dog with a hell of a nice paint job.

I think those hammered in finger guards are the coolest thing on the hand forged knives.

I like them to Clue. They add a little extra although it is time consuming.

What have you been feeding those hogs. They are fat. Sounds like non stop action.T dog, Now I know where all the hogs you run out of Tx. and I run out of La. go. They go all the way to Fla.. and there is no place left for them to run to so Cajun! just brings his trailers out there and backs them to the woods and those dogs run them into the trailer. Maybe he does have some Border Collie in the mix.

T
dog about thirty years ago I sold some Plotts to Mike Williams, He ran a lot of cattle up in the mountains of California. He just about floored me when he told me he worked those Plotts on cows. Now I am sure not all of them would do it but he liked working Plotts on cows when he wasn't bear or lion hunting. I have had to break a few young Plotts off of cows because we hunt too many places where their are cows. Can you imagine a Dairy farmer coming up on his cows in a pond bayed by a couple of Plotts. Well that happened but luckily everything worked out.

Sounds like a great hunt in the afternoon. I know it is getting pretty warm down there. You might just going to catch the Plott fever. It's pretty bad and hard to get over it.

Just finished up another forged knife with the forged in finger guard.  6" blade, total 10" overall. 5160 steel with a Camel bone handle.

That was hard for me to believe myself and I was there. I have heard one other story like that and that was Showtimes great Aunt. Boys that owned her had run a boar hog most of the day and she finally was in one place according to the beep beep. They went in and found her laying next to a 250# boar hog that was dead as a hammer. She had run that hog to death. Tobey, I might just have to put you on the payroll. lol We sure enjoyed the invite and really had a good time with y'all.   You and Wes can really put us on the hogs. That Wesley can get thru the woods as fast as anyone I have seen.

18  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Re: STARTED SOME MORE PUPS on: April 03, 2025, 07:04:49 am
That is as good a training situation as it gets for pups. Great way to get them started, I bet the pit will move to the ear on bigger hogs.

Good pics and good hogs Slim. I am sure Sketch will get Goose going in the right direction. That was a pile of hogs y'all caught.
20  HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / 3/30/25 Hunt on: April 02, 2025, 07:07:29 am
Larry Smith and I got invited to make a hunt with Highwater and his son Wes. It was a new place they acquired and they had the hogs baited up. When I say they had a abundance of mud and palmettos, that is a understatement. First turnout dogs trailed out and got bayed. Went in and caught a nice sow. 2nc turnout dogs got on a runner and we ended up catching the dogs off. Went to the other side of the property and turned out in some sign. Dogs trailed out and jumped. After a race the dogs caught another nice sow. We ended up catching dogs off another long race. I will say if a hog wants to run in that country it would be hard for dogs to run them down. It is wall to wall Palmettos and when we turned two bulldogs loose on the first bay, it sounded like tanks going through the Palmettos. All in all it was a great hunt and we sure appreciated the invite.
