42  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Spraying fence lines.... on: June 30, 2014, 10:33:54 am
I use the Pronto Big N Tuf from TSC to spray my fence lines. I haven't sprayed it on anything that it couldn't kill.

That's better but the shock feature is not there when using the 320.

I would like to see them make the alpha compatible with the dc40's so I wouldn't have to buy all new collars

My hairy dog "Master Splinter"

His son "Bo"  1/2 Stag 1/4 Pit 1/4 Dane   He's not hairy but he is the only one that made the cut out of this litter.

Father son duo

My latest litter. Bred my 1/2 Dogo 1/2 Pit to the Stag "Splinter"
She had 14 pups but only 4 made it through the first 24 hours. Lost one last Monday (I think her big butt squished it)
4 weeks old. One will be hairy and the other two look slick

Couple Videos
First one is one day hunting earlier this year with the father son duo doing all the catching. (I think Bo was 12 months old then)

Thanks for the links Dirty Dave. I have never seen these but think I may have to invest in a few of them since I can't find anything fully automated...
46  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Comfortis? on: May 08, 2014, 10:17:56 pm
100 bucks for 6 pills down here... good for a 120 pound dog so I do like Mike and crush them and split each pill between two dogs. Works great even on the couple dogs I have that weigh 80-90lbs.

My kind of thread!!! I would post mine but I think everybody has seen them. Good looking dogs guys and gals!

Kerrey truth is 9 out of ten strait stags won't catch and are like gritty curs. Chad has a great dog from great lines but on average it takes going through a couple dogs to get a consistent line nailed down.

Thanks for the compliment on this dog. I have no idea on his breeding (although I have tried to find some good info). I really have no experience with any other Stags but I have heard a lot of stories about Stags not being as "hard, if ya will" as this one... Judging from my last cross this adage may be true. Keep in mind the mother of this litter ended up being a cull. Out of four pups only one of them caught and had the temperament I liked (I gave one to an "ex" friend and judging from the videos I've seen on FB, she's a cull in my book). My recent cross is from a proven gyp so hopefully I end up with more than one decent pup...

I really don't want a pure pit I know they work great I've had some good ones... I usually cut from 100-200 depending on what's going on but I want something I can cut loose in a field ... Yesterday for instance we had a hog run right by the truck with the strike dogs in his butt I sent my cd right away and we got out run... Not mad at my dogs it happens my cd is up in age

Different strokes for different folks but I like to come in as soon as my catch dogs hit in order to minimize possible damage by a good hog.

I will say this... In the daylight I can't remember ever getting "out ran" after I released the Stag. The bay might break or he misses but the race is VERY short. Now night time is a different story. He will come back if the bay breaks.

My stag does great. Been using him as a lead-in for a couple years now and never had a problem
50  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Speed on: April 27, 2014, 05:48:23 pm
I send catch dogs in at about 20 or 30 yards... Now I have sent the stag out on some open field pigs before.
51  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Land sharks on the way on: April 27, 2014, 03:15:38 pm
Just an update. Only one ended up making the cut. He's been on at least 75 pigs and is doing great.

I use a Stag and a StagXPit/Dane. Also have some 2 week old pups on the ground that are StagXDogo/Pit.

After Bayer quit working I went with Comfortis... Still working great!
54  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Catchdog Options other than Pit on: March 29, 2014, 04:55:26 pm
I use a Staghound duo for my catching. Grey one is stag and the other is his son 1/4pit 1/4dane 1/2stag

What are the start and finish times?
57  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Anyone gave a shot to make a female come in heat? on: March 06, 2014, 08:22:18 pm
I had my main gyp get bred by a potlicker and my vet gave her a lutalyse shot to make her abort the pregnancy which worked as she did not have pups... She had been bred once before this and had a healthy litter of puppies. I just bred her again (a year later and after the shot) and she miscarried and quit eating for a week. Thought she wasn't going to pull through it but she is getting back to normal now. Not sure if that shot messed her up or what...

Yeah! We got 8th place. Moving up every year... maybe one year we will get there.

Had a good time as usual. Looking forward to trying again next year.

Was it biggest 4 hogs last year? Or did that change this year?
