5  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Jack Russel/Fiest x Pitt on: January 24, 2012, 02:24:36 am
My Grandpa's little gyp accidentally got bred to the neighbors pitt .lol. Anyway I was wondering what yaws opinion on these pups would be . I am thinking of getting a few and trying to train them as small catch dogs . I figure with the size I would use two . And I figure it would be easy to get them thru some of these thick briar thickets we have here in Central Mississippi . The mama is gritty and tries to catch just about everything . I know for a fact she had even had her turn on a hog or two . Shes is tough to be no bigger than she is . The daddy , I have no idea may just of been a yard dog ?

7  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Hi-Point .45acp carbine on: January 19, 2012, 05:12:27 am
Ive got  a 9mm Hi-point that Ive used for a while and I like it very well . Had to shoot two mocassins last summer with it and it is very accurate to say the least . Both were head shots , one being very close and the other being 15 yards or so . I have target practiced at further distances and accuracy was still good . It seems to be made good and for no more money than I have in it I dont mind the thought of loosing it or getting it packed with mud .

10  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: garmin ? on: December 27, 2011, 01:29:21 am
I had the same problem with my dc 40's less than 7 months old . I called garmin and they sent me 3 new antennas for my collars . I put them on Christmas day and tried them the next . I got away from one dog I left in the trailer almost a mile and still picked up good . The other collar never lost signal . I hope the problem is solved . May want to call and ask them to send you new antennas for your collars .

Colby, thanks for the pics . Ive got a Blue Valentine bred mare Im gonna use . She is nice had her green broke half way or so at the beginning of summer and work kept me from riding , I saddled her saturday and she picked up were she left off . I think she will do good on hogs . Nothing seems to bother her to bad . But she is young and you never know . Im gonna start leading some dogs off of her and tying her close by when I let the pups bay . Thanks again for the advice .

15  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: ? about sport dog tracker on: December 05, 2011, 11:28:59 pm
I spoke with a rep on the phone the other day , when I was thinking of tradiing in my e collars for something better . Didnt get into great detail , but he said he has used this unit some and was getting 5 miles of range in wooded areas . Dont know how true that was for sure . He said you could mark different points on it . It just doesnt have all the graphics like the astro . I had good luck with the e collars I bought years ago . If it would get the range that the rep said he got I would like to have it . I have a number I will try to find in a day or two and post for you and they can give you the low down on it .

Thanks for all the advice . I will try a little of all of it . I did see the videos on utube , and they are pretty cool . I was wondering what those horses were goin to do whe those pigs ran under their feet . lol . It was a shock to me they were steady and calm . I have seen horses that wouldnt even load in a trailer that has hauled hogs before . This arto be a fun process .lol. Thanks again .  Grin
18  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / riding horses hog hunting on: December 05, 2011, 04:30:09 am
Just wondering if any of you guys hunt hogs on horses . Got some young horses I have thought about using and was curious on how to get them used to hog hunting . Was worrired when we got to a bay that the horse would be uneasy and scared . I always work my colts on dragging something behind them , but never a squeling pig . Any ideas that would be helpful . Thanks
19  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: A question for those with more experience on: November 28, 2011, 10:59:08 pm
We have been seeing this alot here in Mississippi . We have struck on fresh sign and the dogs will keep going and going . I also talk to a few friends lately and they have been having the same trouble . I was told that most of these hogs have just been plain educated to run and keep running .
