That picture above we had already gutted that one, dogs rolled and caught another so we hung him in a tree and went back to get him. We took that picture at the truck. Charles, we don't kill a lot of hogs, and that buckskin horse will haul them dead or alive, he is only 5 but a good one. If they are too big for me and them in the saddle, I ride behind it. Most of the places we huknt are pretty rough also, and you can't just ride every inch of it. I might have to drag to get to my horse, but that is about it. If not I do like Mr. Whitten said and take care of business where it happens. A while back caught a good boar in a really deep and steep, rough and rocky holler. After we tied him and took his picture, we untied 2 legs and persuaded him to start down the hill. He went about 3/8 of a mile on his own and we caught him again, tiedd him back up and hauled him 1.8 miles to the truck, on the horse. I have a lot of respect for those that will drag them, its work and separates the men from the boys. I used to hunt in the southern part of Oklahoma a bunch and hunted around some swamps, I am sure nothing like you Florida men do but I know a little what you mean. I got lost in one of those swamps and when we got back to the horses and mules, I asked the man I was with where the truck was. It had got dark and we were catching hogs, he told me he didnt know and I got kind of nervous, he cut his mule loose when we got out of them swamps and he took us to the truck. You can bet I didnt let him and that mule out of my sight, dark and no light aint no fun. That garmin cuts down on that now.

Man that was a great story. Hope Ol Monkey is doing better. Hope you have something out of him besides just your Spur dog. They sound like good ones. when you go it alone like that it really makes you think and rely on your dogs. Good job.

Thanks, I kept 2 of them. My hunting buddies took the rest. Kept 1 male and 1 female. I have a littermate to them that is almost 2. She is a decent hog dog but an outstanding cow dog. All of tear momma's pups but 1 have made nice dogs. Trying to get their momma back in shape now. All of her pups are really rough, but she isn't that bad. These pups were born June 29th , so they are about nine weeks. They bay any thing that moves and have for quite a while. Father time Will tell how they do.

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / Nice hot weather hunt 08/09/14

Me and 2 of my hunting buddies cut out early this morning, cut the dogs loose and made a big circle, headed back in the direction of the truck after about 30 minutes and just let the dogs roll out a little so we didn't have to get off and open any gates. They went out about 800 and started to loop back in, they were really covering some ground and hunting good. They all roll back in but my Pete dog and he looked like he was coming so we moved out. He came in to about 465 yards and started baying, the catch dogs, which were 2 young bulldogs that are brothers headed back to him. He shuts up for a second and starts baying again. He is totally silent until he's looking at them so I was sure he had a hog, shuts up and starts baying again, by this time we are close and he is in a big cow lot and working pens, with weeds and grass 6' and taller. My buddies 2 bay dogs get there and they are baying too. These dogs are all really rough and I figure its a big hog, I can hear him woofing and grunting and cant figure out why the bulldogs aren't caught. Climb the fence and see he's on the other side of one of the panels, he makes a break and a mistake when he sees us and he is caught, only weighed about 80 but he was rolling fat, tied him and took him to the truck which at this point is only a 100 yards or less from us. Went hunting for a couple more hours started getting hot and called it a day. Where them weeds are beat down is where the hog and dogs were dancing!

Most of mine would be considered rough, but will back up on a rank nasty big hog. Sometimes they dont back up fast enough and its a trip to the vets office. My bulldog runs loose and has some leg and wind and is usually there pretty quick. You have to have a lot of trust in them for that. Couple years ago was seeing a lot of small sows and pigs, so I didnt take a bulldog. Got on a big boar and 178 stitches later, almost lost a good one. My vet still says it the worst he has seen that still lived.
