Parker gyp I got. Her hair is long and tight, almost like a Chesapeake feel to it. She still has all the brindle trim, just harder to see. Had her litter sister, and she was slick haired.

My up and comer. 4 months old out of my old male I retired and my little black gyp I still use. They were both drop offs so I don't know how they are bred, but they threw some nice pups. Duke Parents

Little black gyp. 35 lbs. Straight business. Don't say a word, just gets her job done. I hunt by myself a lot, and I like having two bulldogs, so I normally always send her w another dog. She had four pups back in September. Bred her to my older bulldog. Threw some nice pups. This is the one I kept.

I have hunted with Joey and this dog and hope he gets it lined out. He is absolutely one of the best at his specific job that I have seen. No worries running in behind him.

I knew the shot you were talking about Goose, but didn't know the name, thanks. There was another thread awhile back talking about gyps coming in and a couple people talked about gyps that never had a lepto shot not coming in. They are cheap, and I didn't raise this gyp, so I did it to rule that out.

Goose, I did give her an 8 way to rule that out. I haven't tried anything else. My uncle is a vet, so I will have to give him a call and see what he has to say about it.

Yes Mr. Jimmy, it's Larry Parker's dogs I am running. I like the way they hunt for me. To get back to the beginning of this conversation Mr. Reuben started, I believe that Mr. Larry has bred and culled correctly. I think this is what contributes to his litters being about 80% hog dogs, with some being exceptional. I got high hopes for the litter I am trying to get right now. Gonna try and keep most of them.

Mr. Jimmy, I can't take any credit for these, Mr. Larry had done all the real nuts and bolts of it, I am just trying to continue on and make dogs that hunt the way I want them to. So far, knock on wood, it has been working. He only started with three dogs, so there isn't much room to work with. I have been trying to go back and catch the older generation dogs, in hopes of prolonging the issues. It's just a he'd scratcher on where to go from here, lol

Great thread. Now the question. What are y'all's opinion on too tight? Wait until something shows up, or a specific number of generations? I read earlier that some lines handle it better than other. I am just trying to learn from you guys that have seen it and done it. Right now, I am on a 5th generation, no out cross at all.

Mr. Mike I have 5 at the house right now and none of them have any major health issues. I didn't have any issues with the litter I had in April. All of them have grown normally, and are big nice looking pups. Having said that, the one thing I am having trouble with right now, is trying to catch the gyp I am trying to breed when she is in heat. I don't know if hers is very light, or just not there. I finally just brought the male over and am kenneling them together until we really kick back off in the spring.
Skittish is kind of a tough one. I had a litter sister to the gyp I am trying to breed now. She was given away as a puppy cause she was too skittish. She went through a couple people and when I got her at around 18 months, you damn near couldn't put a hand on her. I don't know whether to contribute that to the breeding or lack of handling. Hard to say. I took her and started hunting her with a string on her so I could catch her and eventually she got to where she would at least lay down. I will say that none of these dogs seem to be the real touchy feely type. They tolerate you, but really don't want to be buddies with you.
The litter I am trying to breed now will tell the tale, I believe. Good bit tighter than the last one. I made these crosses to try and get back to some of Mr. Larry's older stuff. The problem is going to be where I can go with the pups I am shooting for with this breeding. I don't know if they can take another full Parker cross.

Mr. Mike, I just made this cross earlier this year and didn't seem to have any bad results so far. Actually, all these pups seem to be turning on a little sooner than I had thought they would. I can't take the credit for it, Mr. Larry had put in all the time. He has gotten them pretty dang tight. I am trying to make this cross now, so hopefully it turns out ok. Hopefully I will be able to let you know in about 4 months!!

How have yall seen really tight blood effect it? Got a gyp I bought just to breed that's pretty tightly bred. Been waiting on her for awhile, almost a year, and nothing. Kinda getting worried.

Cajun, it does still hurt, lol. Hurt so bad I paid a pretty good penny for her unstarted litter sister as a brood gyp. She doesn't look as nice as her though. Looks like a damn Labrador, lol.
