41  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: fair puppy price ? on: January 06, 2015, 03:39:31 pm
I say sell them for whatever you want as long as you can sleep well at night knowing what you did.

Keep in mind, the more you sell them for the more your names going to get slung through the mud.  I don't care how good a dogs your breeding, they won't satisfy everyone....and if you're breeding dogs to TRY and satisfy everyone I don't think I want what your selling anyhow.

Every pup that has left my yard (which is very few) left with an open agreement that at ANYTIME in that dogs life the buyer wasn't satisfied, I'd buy it back.  I make this agreement knowing full well that some won't make the grade, but if I give your money back you can't throw my name around saying I sold you some snake oil.  I also don't want a cull pup off my dogs being bred, so this is a simple way of removing said dog.  Having said all that, I'll also say that I've never bought one back.

I also have a gentleman's agreement that if the owner no longer wants the dog (perhaps getting out of hunting, or whatever reason) then I also ask for first opportunity at buying the dog at owners asking price.

This has worked well for me, but I also don't sell many pups and I'm pretty selective on who I sell them to.
42  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Dogo Argentino Pricing on: December 23, 2014, 09:50:55 am
I'd be willing to bet most of the folks actually hunting their dogos didn't pay those prices for them.  If you have a yard full of dogs you've paid $1k+ for that your hunting knowing chances are strong they will eventually get killed then you have more money than sense.

There's show breeders, and working breeders and most of the time they don't intermingle.

I have several American Bulldogs on my yard all of which were given to me as pups at some point in time by fellow hunters who were more interested in seeing the results of their breedings than how the dogs would perform in a show ring.  I'm talking dogs who based on pedigrees alone would fetch top dollar.  There are a few breeders of all types of dogs out there whose primary focus isn't money driven...you just have to find them.

I find it really hard to blame a seller for what I feel like are unreasonable prices, when there are buyers happy to pay it.   Some of you would probably hit the floor if you knew what it actually cost Yeti to build a cooler....but sales are strong.
43  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: pyrantel ? on: December 09, 2014, 10:19:57 pm
Drontal tablets are simply a combination of pyrantel pamoate (strongid) and praziquantel.  Work very well for treating all intestinal worms at once (including tapes) but pretty costly also.  Much more cost effective to use a regular regimen of strongid wormer and treat for tapes only when they are seen.  Google "fish tapes" and use that for tapes.
44  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: pyrantel ? on: December 09, 2014, 09:29:11 pm
T.R.

The wormer you should give three consecutive days conatins active ingredient fenbendazole (safeguard, panacur).  No need for multiple admins of the others.

This is the way I buy it.

http://www.amazon.com/Neogen-Pyrantel-50mg-32oz/dp/B00061MVMS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1418135749&sr=8-2&keywords=pyrantel+pamoate

Same exact thing as Strongid-T.  1 cc per 10lbs is correct.

Who's Doodle's parents?   I'm thinking that may be the dog James Reasoner had and bred to my Zeus one time.

Send a message to jerryg on here.  I believe he can tell you all you want to know.

Probably be best to send him an email anyhow.  Not sure how often he's around here these days.

48  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Help with DMV question on: December 05, 2014, 10:22:52 am
If it's truly homemade and 4,000 or less then you do not have to have it inspected.  You are required to have it registered and plates on it.  No title needed.  You can have it inspected, a VIN recorded and the trailer titled (not really a simple process) but it's not required by law.

Here's a link from DMV's website.  Click on the Homemade Trailer Tab.

Nothing.  You could get written permission if you feel like something may be strange about the place, but not needed.  If it's a small place, you might want to talk to neighbors also.

If not him, it would be someone else.

As long as there are buyers unwilling to do their homework, and who still believe everyone is honest there will be those that will prey on them.  Sad, but true.
52  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Breeding a Dog on: December 02, 2014, 05:16:08 pm
When you get past worrying about whether a dog is proven or not, then prepotency comes into play.

Some of the best dogs I've seen hunt, when bred several times couldn't produce anything beyond mediocre.  I've also been witness to some bets placed on so-so dogs that payed.

Sometimes being lucky is better than being good.
53  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Breeding a Dog on: December 02, 2014, 10:01:56 am
If your breeding for your own use and what your doing is working for you, then who's to say whats right or wrong.

If your breeding just to sell pups....well most of those people are doing one thing and saying another anyhow.

The term "proven" is just a general term usually thrown around by people to sound like they know what they're saying.  What does it really mean?  That the dog will find hogs? ...does that make a dog proven?

Me personally, how an individual dog I'm considering breeding performs is important yes, but I put a lot more emphasis on how his/her lineage performs.  I would breed a mediocre dog from a long line of greats way before I'd breed a scatter bred superstar I knew nothing about.

Diuron granules.  1/2 lb per surface acre.  Treat small areas at a time.

Political correctness is what has and is leading to the demise of America as we once knew it.

People standing by quietly, hoping not to offend those who believe differently in hopes they will just go away rather than being a vocal voice in support.

Guess what...those who disagree aren't going to just go away.  Pictures, videos, stories...in the end I don't think any of it will really matter anyhow.  Sure there are things that shouldn't be posted just because it's really not proper...but as far as "fuel for the anti's" well there's already plenty of that.

I read a story this morning on the news where a cheearleader from Tech is catching all kinds of flack on facebook for posting hunting pictures from a recent trip to Africa.  Not bloody...not gory, just pictures with her trophy.  These tree hugging, vegan liberals would love nothing more than to see legislation passed to end hunting all together.  So what do the hunters do?  Instead of telling them to go suck an egg, they sit back quietly trying their best not to offend in hopes they will just go away.

Stand up for what you believe in, or be prepared to lose your rights.
56  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: WERE DID EVERYBODY GO??? on: June 25, 2014, 11:28:23 am
In my post above, I wasn't referring to myself but to many of those whom I have met over the years and that I respect as basically "knowing what they're doing"

if you don't voice your opinion you will never no if it's good or bad or right or wrong.

Respected dog-men typically don't post information seeking approval in what they're doing, but rather to simply help others.  When they are shot down and told that what they've been doing for years is wrong, they go away.  Unfortunate for the younger guys that truly want to learn, but thats just the way it is.

The problem with a lot (but not all) of the younger generation is that they are quick to post, share, or form opinions based on what they've heard along the way without any real world experience to back it up.

I like this site there tend to be more people you can trust on here.

Unfortunately most of the knowledgeable have been silenced by those that never figured out that the best way to learn is to shut up and listen.
58  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: CLAUDE ARD!!!!!!! on: June 24, 2014, 02:06:10 pm
This was the first finished dog I had ever bought, no one I knew was selling a finished dog right now and I needed a dog quick , I do blame myself for this stupid move , and a hard lesson learned. He gave me a false name . But this guy needs to be stopped ! Would you agree ? He will also steal your dogs out of your dog box at gas stations, grocery stores ect. If you leave your truck. I have even had ppl msg me and tell me he has stole dogs right out of woods hunting, so it's not just ppl buying dogs from ppl they don't know, it's for trying to stop a thief / scam artist . Put yourself in other ppls shoes. And think how it would feel of he stole one of your dogs and sold it to someone all in the same week ?

I didn't say what was done was okay....but I DID say it can (and should) be avoided.  That is all.
Again, sorry for what happened.  Some lessons come with a price.
59  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: CLAUDE ARD!!!!!!! on: June 24, 2014, 10:53:58 am
How is this guy still alive or even not in jail...

Better yet, with all the information out there concerning dog deals gone bad how in the world are people still buying UNKNOWN dogs from UNKNOWN people in UNKNOWN places??  There are probably more posts on this board about dogs deals gone south than there are about how to worm a dog and yet people are still buying.  Personally, if I knowingly put myself into a position to be taken advantage of and it happens, then I'm probably going to blame myself more than anyone else.

THIS SITUATION CAN BE AVOIDED!

Sorry you were taken advantage of, but as long as people continue to buy the crooks will continue to sell.
60  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Bolivian Jaguar Heelers on: June 17, 2014, 03:56:21 pm
Seems like they might be a lot easier to train as multi-purpose dogs.  Use one nostril for finding hogs and the other for cattle.  Just plug the one not in use and you're in business.

Just a thought...

Cool story about the dogs, Barlow.  Pic looks a lot like my dogs.
