Nice young dogs, if I remember right your current line of dogs started with a yellow gyp "can't remember her name" and then came Hambone.

Good job in a tough situation. I have heard of folks cutting off a hogs ears and tails when they castrate him so othrr folks would have trouble catching their bars, and if they were hunting the bars they'd have a 22 and just shoot them. We've not ever had that trouble up in here but have seen a few that appeared to have had their ears chewed off as shoats.

Good solid dogs to good solid dogs from a good family, may produce a superstar. Superstars rarely produce up to their level but bred to a good solid dog may produce good solid dogs. We often pay too much attention to the strengths of individual traits rather than concentrating on a well balanced dog. By well balanced I mean good or better from truck to meat on the hook. It's tough to get there from scratch but can be done in time.

Riding hunting adds to the sport for me, we ride mules to hunt, horses for cow penning and catching. Don't always ride to hunt but ride alot.
The old pup may have started learning to weigh them.
Times like today is why I haven't ever broke him to release on command, sure wouldn't want him to think I or someone else asked him to release. Now I stuck that hog today and when one dies he'll let go on his own.

HOG & DOGS / DOGS ON HOGS / SPOTTED BOAR

We caught a good spotted boar today, half mile race and a hard hard bay. Sounded good riding to them, got there and they were in a small slough that was overgrown in some kind of bushes. I told Adam we're gonna have to get wet. Water was just about half knee deep. I wallowed around under and over those limbs and got close enough to stick him clean, close quarters, came to his head with nothing but Ol'Grip to keep him off of me. Couldn't even get a good picture, but he was bigger than the other 2 we recently caught probably 200 lbs. with just a little more tooth. The old pup that wants to be rough was bayed solid and tight but not trying to catch. That's 3 decent boars in a row, they seem to come in spurts for us. We sent the dogs on and did mash 5 pigs though, I don't like getting in pigs.

That seems odd to me, I have had 3 and now a pup I raised here and they all have been ultra friendly and loving to all people. From my limited experience with them I figured you'd have to work at making them show any man aggression. But then again there's different strains and different traits in all breeds. I know the folks in Argentina claim they are excellent home and family protectors, so maybe mine just didn't get that trait. But I would never have a stranger pester one in an aggresive fashion as an effort to prevent that. If you're standing or sitting around mine and a stranger shows one any attention they will come and root under their hand wanting to be petted.

Tell us about the Dogo, where he is from, how he is bred etc. Those of us that use them need to know where the good ones are.

Thanks guys, and yes sometimes they will be bayed or caught where it tales 5 minutes to get 15 feet, and often the hog will break with the catchdog trying to get in there, really I'm glad to see them flush out of that sort of place and am not above flushing them on purpose. I hate having to get off in the water if its cold weather as well, and if its where I can I hook a rope or some dog leashes to Grip and tow the hog to the bank, hog fishing with a grab haha. I did look Grip's birthday up and he will be 5 in April.
