Wish i had property to hunt right at the house. Still takes 30mins from house to get to land we've already been relocating hogs too.   Undecided

Wow that sucks cajun, i was figuring on 6 piglets per sow, and them all living lol. I guess i can hang that up. pretty sure if i remember right, we use to give piglets iron shots, as well as clippin teeth and tail in vet class. not 100% tho. What you reckon causes em to die so early?

Shotgun- You have brought a very good argument to the table. And I do respect your stand and advice. I dont hunt turkey or deer at all(never enjoyed chasin billy goats and chickens) The food plot arguement is out, these hogs will be turned out in riverbottoms and sandhills. Its either flooded and wet, or too sandy. In Southern Ga we dont have the luxery of Food plots. Least not my parts. Now the feeder on the other hand yes, hogs will prolly enjoy their yella acorns. My argument is they enjoy shootin the hogs as much as i like catchin em. And they sure aint trophy huntin around here lol.

Now the leased land on the other hand is a good point. If i leave the lease, Rayonier(timber harvesting, lumber mills, wood procurement etc...) might and a big might be worried over a couple thousand acres with some hogs on it. More than likely if I leave, they will replace me with another hunter. But as a Christian I dont want to ruin my Testimony all because I turned out some hogs and became a nuisence to others. So you've givin me alot to think on.  Thanks!

348  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Raising and turning out Hogs on: February 02, 2013, 03:17:07 pm
Firemedic- Your right, good dogs or not, we dont catch a hog every trip, or every other trip for that matter. Most the time we scout different properties during the week and try to keep em pinpointed. But here they are fairly scarce. Unless we're dumpin the box on a field lol

Cajun-Some good lookin hogs they yours? lol, its not illegal to have em here, just movin alive. don't know ya'lls regs.

Shotgun-The hogs we turn out are miles away from houses and farmland. Not sayin they don't migrate back but they are far enough they usaully dont. and like i said previously, 200lbs is the size limit, and once they reach that, they out. I really want to keep everyone happy and still enjoy the good hunting.

350  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Raising and turning out Hogs on: February 02, 2013, 12:08:09 pm
If i do, it won't be broadcasted Locally. Again, I'm not saying that I am going to do it, but i have givin thought to it. Thats why i sought advice before doing it. Just wanted to see if ya'll thought it to be a outlawish crime, or just shrugged at the mention of it.

Hogs that we catch, that are over 200lbs are butchered, sow, barr, or boar reguardless. Anything smaller is released on personal leases, that way we can hunt em again until they get of size. The more i type, the more i feel like im trying to justify doing it lol.
351  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Raising and turning out Hogs on: February 02, 2013, 11:02:24 am
I'm In Georgia. Hogs around here are far and few. Its a pretty good drive to get to a couple good places to hunt.

Got some good land close to home, mostly river bottom, and little sandhill pines thought about lettin a couple litters loose and barr'n the Boars. No farm land around and not many houses either. I wouldnt do it purposely trying to overpopulate. We try to get hogs out deer hunting land and farmers feilds and turn em back loose on my land. My pens are full and sows are bred gotta do something.

Dont know how Texas is But if its anything like Fla i do understand what you mean when you say problem. I grew up in So Fla, We didnt know what a bay dog was for a long time, just hunted Vested up Pits. I moved up Here and found out its a whole nother thing. These hogs round here on deer dog clubs keep they nike's on. And you better have a cold nosed dog in these marsh's and swamps.

Again it wouldn't be to overpopulate, just to have somewhere close to hunt. Your Thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated!

353  HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Raising and turning out Hogs on: February 02, 2013, 10:27:11 am
I would like to hear ya'lls opinions on the subject. How do you feel about someone raising wild hogs, Breeding sows and turning piglets out?

What are some pro's and con's?
354  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Bluetick Cross on: February 02, 2013, 10:17:54 am

356  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: pseudo rabies killing 2 dogs far on: February 02, 2013, 10:10:52 am
No cases in Ga right? Kinda makes ya somewhat worried.

Hate to hear that about ya'lls dogs.
357  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Bluetick Cross on: February 01, 2013, 07:24:11 pm
I have been thinking about leaving the BMC out, since its the only breed i dont own. 1/4 Blue 1/4 pit and 1/2 Cat.

Never hunted around Cats much, mine are rough with a hog. And so far dont cast far. BMC's i've hunted around were all loose and casted out 700+yds. I knew both were cur blood, but i didnt think the hunting styles were close enough to matter. All im after is silent, med range, and rough.

I've always been a dumpster dog man, so im ignorant to info about curs, just know the few i've hunted around.
358  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Bluetick Cross on: February 01, 2013, 06:40:20 pm
You got any pics?

I know they young but how they huntin? You happy with the cross so far?
359  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Bluetick Cross on: February 01, 2013, 05:51:30 pm
My ultimate Goal is 1/4 Bluetick, 1/4 Pit, 1/4 Cat, 1/4 BMC.

I'm Starting with My UKC Bluetick Gyp, My question is which should i cross first, pit, cat, or bmc?

My thoughts were, blutick x pit ,  and bmc x cat   then cross them? My only worries were crossin the cat and pit would just be rcd's. I'm lookin to get rough bay dogs. I got 2 cutter bay ticks, and they get the job done, but in the long run im wantin to lose the mouth. My cats are off Facahatchee kennels, they hunt hard but close. Got 2 pits Game bred Red nose and big ol blue nose(haven't decided which im gonna breed), and the BMC is red dog from texas(dont know the line but its a fine dog).

Any thoughts? Open to suggestions. Im in South Ga, hunt Mostly Swamps, river bottoms, and flat ponds. Every now an then a field.
360  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Switching over on: January 29, 2013, 06:21:53 pm
I got some cutter bay pups im workin with here in south Ga, gotta love a hound, 6-7months old and already huntin on their own. Gotta love that bawl echo'n thru them swamps.

And i have some cat pups off of facahatchee kennels too, they workin great too, Blues and cats been workin great together, kinda play off each others downsides. they all young   but coming along great. shois takins alot of work tho!!

I like and hunt silent and open dogs, always hunted dumpster dogs till now. They all work, long as you keep em in the woods and on hogs.
