Beagles just aren't as fast as big dogs. When they are used for deer hunting in the southern eastern part of the US, they are used on smaller tracts to push the deer at a slower speed. They are hard working, will cold trail and will run all day, but they lack track speed.
Since most agree that speed kills hogs in one way or another, why go with a dog that is known to be slower.
