Do you need to shave the hair off of the area you going to freeze brand?
goatcher what tranquilizer did you use?
(1) I used a very close cut surgical blade on an electric shaver, then used a dab of shaving creme and a shaving razor to lightly go over the site.
(2) Dexdomitor was the sedative. I have it on hand for major traumatic injuries. I used to use acepromazine, but my vet suggested this was a better choice - it is both a sedative and a pain killer.
I want to try the liquid nitrogen, but I get conflicting advice in regards to the iron holding time against the skin on the internet. Some people post junk just so they can read their own posts! If the hold time is indeed 7-8 seconds, then by the time the dogs react to the cold brand, its over. But the only thing I could find on the internet on dogs was a 17 second hold.

Horses take 8-12 seconds, colts take 7-12 seconds on the L&H website. Dogs?
