We've hunted one bay dog, most of the time we catch them, so we will have a bulldog on a lead.  Seems like most of the time the hogs are less likely to run with only one are two dogs.  Friend had a black mouth that could be talked into catching.  Caught quite a few hogs with just him. We'd get to the bay and say "get em Jake, get em", he'd grab just long enough for us to jump in.  It was tricky, never knew when he was going to let go.  He quit catching after taking a bad lick. Can't remember the number, but I believe it was over 100 stitches.  My buddy lost him last year.  RIP Jake.
