Red mange cannot be caught, that is sarcoptic mange. We use zimectrin gold - one click for every 40lbs per day. The vet may prescribe Mitaban but it has never worked for us, it only made the dogs sick and you cannoy combine it with Ivomec.
Sarcoptic mange is curable by using Paramite which you can buy from ag-vet.. We use 1 tsp per gallon. It is also great for ticks/fleas and has a 30 day residual.
We have several dogs out of the same line and it is definately gentic but it is manageable througha good diet and clean pens once you get it cleared up - it can just be a PITA if they have it bad. The vet may also tell you that you need to spay/nueter due to the hormones but I haven't seen a case yet that wasdnt curable...some just take longer than others.
