BoarNinja , Dang, I'd like your catch dog...seems you are a man who appreciates and understand the value of brains in a dog ... IF I had to start with just one thing in a breeding program or in any single dog, brains would be number one. Now if you could teach a dog to read, the papers might get up there close. lol Wiithout brains I don’t find it much pleasure to train or live with a dog. After a man has a smart dog, then his understanding, ability, desire and commitment, comes into play and will sure determine the handle. If I may I'd like to add a couple things to your description of the kind of catch dog you like. " No dog aggression period. On the way to hunt, he rides like a gentleman in the box with any other dog or dogs. When he catches, I am confident he is game and will stay hooked and give it all he's got, cut, stomped, bitten or run over. When I walk in, I want to tap him on the head or snap a leash on him; he turns loose, backs out and sets quietly. " Once a man has had one like you describe, he understands what a pleasure that is. I really despise a flipping out dog, dumb dog, and uncontrollable, unmanageable or emotional idiot but sometimes it's not the dog’s fault. It honestly dooms any chance for overall excellence in my view. Dogs that will catch and do a decent job of that are a dime a dozen, It's like you say, It's all that other stuff that’s tough to find to put the whole package together and have a dog that is a pleasure to use, train and handle. But, like a lot of other things, a lot of those opinions and priorities gets back to a man who values the dog work above the photo shot many times.
