If the animal is not dead has a collar but no ID what do you do? what if you are in City limits where discharging firarms is illegal?
Any other method could wind you in jail for animal cruelty.
If you take the animal to the vet you ar liable for the bill, unless you can find an owner that would accept responsibility.
sometimes you are darned if you do and darned if you don't.
i think i'd still take it to the vet in hopes that it's got a chip or maybe the local vet knows the dog. and if all fails the vet can put the dog down, which doesn't cost too much. just hard for me to watch a dog suffer.... now if it was a cat
