it does not have to be expensive to hunt hogs i have been hog hunting for 10 years and never had a tracking unit or ever bought a dog if you know people who hunt hogs they will usually give you a puppy just to see how it turns out but that is only my experience i do not know where you hunt down here in florida you can catch hogs all night with just a Qbeam and a good bulldog. on second thought there are hundreads of times i wished I had a tracking collar and them vets will rape you. My advice start off with one dog that you can spend alot of time with and try to build a pack around that dog. If you start out with a jam up finished dog you may bite off more than you can chew, if you get on a 300# bad hog that is wrecking your new $1000 dog and he hase no back up, kills your dog you may not like hog hunting anymore. If you get a free dog that shows interest as a pup get smoked a few times then catch a sholt, then maby a few smaller hogs then move on up ,what I am saying is you and your dog advance together. That free wormy dog may be the one you tell your grandkids about.
