Probably because some dogs are so intent on finding the hog that they are tracking. A smart boar when being tracked by dogs will run right through the middle of a group of sows and choats to loose the dogs, but some dogs don't fall for that, they will stay right on the track of that ol boar. 
I got it now! Thats why I always catch sows and shoats! Grin
