That all becomes a "handle" issue.  I leave the woods with my dogs, when I am ready, not when they are ready.  Oh, and yes, I do hunt hounds.   Grin

Plenty of references for those who doubt you can teach a hound to come back in when called.  I have literally called them off a track when they were only 20 yards behind a hog, because of one reason or another.  Wether they can see the hog or not, when I say it is time to load up, we're all loading up including the hounds.  I don't settle for less.  Set standards and live by them.  You'll enjoy life more.  I promise.
I personally dont like the thought of making my dogs quit a hog, they might make a habit of it. As for the handle, if my dogs didnt handle well they wouldnt be here.
