Just give it time as you know already, I try not to drag the heck out of them, they seem to fight it more. I like to leash them up and just stand there till they make a move and follow them for a minute. Kind of like a give and take system, let them lead you then you take your turn. Its all about the time spent with the dog pretty soon they always understand what you want.
