What do you mean "get ahead" ? like getting in front of a running hog? I never even thought that was a way to stop one. I figured it was hard enough for a dog to get close enough to a running hog to bite butt. I thouhgt if you had a dog that wouldn't bite a hog AT ALL, it wouldn't usually be able to bay one up unless the pig just wanted to fight.

I like not having to worry about my "non gritty" dog when I hear him barking, I know he won't try anything stupid. He may have a smaller hog bayed, but at least I don't have to worry about him getting cut down all the time. But I do think he will bite a hog to try to turn it around, I don't consider that "grit"
