the Catahoula blood line possesses the merle gene ,, thats what give's them the spotted coat in most dogs it only effects black colored fur,, so the dog's that have  leapard coats could produce solid black or brown pups,, Heelers are the same way i use to have a red and blue cross heeler bitch that would produce 1 solid black pup every time.
