depends on if you mean now or in the beginning. there are different registries now of course, and different types of dogs. no question about that. but i always assumed they were origionally all "catahoulas", and were called leopard dogs because of the predominant coloring. and i assume they all came from the same dogs. even 30 years ago there wasnt a very uniform type. some were more houndy lookin, some more bully lookin. even had some that looked like they had a little greyhound in em. all were supposed to be catahoulas. but among the people i knew, they always just called em leopard dogs, unless they were talkin to someone unfamiliar with them, then they might say catahoula cause it was more likely they had heard of that name before. i think there has been so much mixed breeding that none of em are full anything anymore. who knows what the early ones were like. there has been way to much breeding for looks. not many i know of who have bred true to type, ability, and soundness, like some of the guys on here have done with the yella dogs. and thats a shame.
