All you have to have to hunt in the Davey Crockett National Forest is a valid hunting license. If you want to shoot a doe you have to have a permit but to shoot a buck or run hogs with dogs all you need is a regular hunting license. If you hunt in the WMA area (Alabama Creek) outside of Apple Springs then you need a permit just to hunt. Dont get caught in their running dogs. Their is thousands of acres by my house that we hunt. Lots of sloughs and creeks. Nice country. I live in between Kennard and Apple Springs. I think Sam Houston NF you cant run dogs their if I am not mistaken.
