I agree with Backwoods and use a similar method. When the pups first teeth start to loosen, stop letting them catch pigs until 7 or 8 months. While waiting, I introduce them to everything and everyone. A catchdog that is hard to handle or requires too much attention will ruin a hunt.
Curs can take 10 months to 2 years to mature enough to find and bay hogs. Exposure to hogs is the only way to know. That's why a good one is worth so much money.
