The only way to get good dogs for certain is to BREED THEM YOURSELF.
I know it’s easier to buy started dogs and adults and what not BUT it is too much aggravation--- not all folks are DOG PEOPLE some are hunters who use dogs but have no understanding of dogs and proper dog husbandry (not dising hunters at all here folks, just stating a fact based on careful observation).
The say may snd cliché but its true ---“one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”---
I personally know of TWO dogs that hunted incredibly well for their owner and would flat out refuse to hunt for anyone else, they wouldn’t even leave the truck ---WHY??? I have no clue--- they got returned and continue to hunt for its first owner ---explain that one to me---
Oly, I agree, we have hog hunters and we have dogmen/women that hunt hogs with dogs. These dogmen and dogwomen like hog hunting but the real love is breeding the right dog and taking pleasure in breeding better hunting dogs.
One breeders idea of what a good hunting dog is is another breeders cull....
If hunting traits were colors like if the left ear were green it was a medium range dog that won't quit a trac or if it were purple it meant the dog was long range with no quit and if that ear was striped pink and blue it wouldn't hunt. If the right ear was gold colored it was a very rough dog or the right ear was orange the dog was loose baying but wouldn't let the hog break bay because it would do all it could to stop it.. IF ALL HUNTING TRAITS WERE VISUAL EVERYONE WOULD HAVE GOOD HUNTING DOGS... :)Because the culls would have been removed from the gene pool long long ago.
