I will be the first to admit that i dont know squat about bird dogs, but i thought those elhews were english pointers? I would love to find the right kind of birdog, wanted to try some crosses for a while, just not much of anything around here exept hounds.
I hunted with some bird/bulls a couple times. They were alright, and would catch a few here and there. But are much better suited down south. They aint worth a whole lot in the mtns.
I used to know the difference, i think they are all English pointers but the magazine my ranch where i worked got said American Feild on it and we got to always calling them American Pointers since we did not like Englandlol Both are the same dog, i think one is sometimes a AKC show dog, seems like i remeber looking on registration papers and all is says is Pointer, but its been to long, somebody will know and post up for sure here I bet. Last dogs I knew of were Pork Roll pupies from Elhew kennels and i think he died right after that, the guy i worked for quit roller chopping finally and I went to another ranch and forgot about them till now to tell the truth, the fire ants killed jacks quail hunting down here in my county, i used to kennel dogs for out of town people during the xmass deer season holidays, we also had a forced bird dog trainer who used a string tied to a dogs toe to make it open its mouth to give the bird on a special table, it was kewl to see dogs that used to run off from there owners after a week of toe training, the dogs would give up the bird and not even crush it like some did we hunted with on the ranch. Iditos would git mad at there dog and shoot it over a bad restreive or a crushed bird, always from too drinking for sure, i got some of these dogs and pleaded with there owners to not kill the dog and give it to me, thats how i got them in hog or bobcat pack. I thinking now after typing this that they are actully English now that i have thought about it.
