I had a full blood bull mastiff back in the early 90's. She was 120lbs and very athelitic with good wind. She was also very game driven.The first time she ever saw a hog i carried on a night hunt with some of my buddies, the dogs bayed in a creek and when i walked up and shined the light down she dove off the bank and caught. Bad thing about it, i was still attached....Thank goodness it only weighed about 100 and she caught ear right off the bat....I used her several more times until my EX wife got to nagging about getting her hurt, but she caught ear every time....May have just been a natural i dont know...
