Hey three notch,....just found your post...sorry to be so long to reply. We hunt near Hawkinsville, GA.
I gather my two up after about 30 minutes but we still cannot find his. I check my GPS and we are 2.2 miles from the first bay. Then a guy calls after about an hour and he has his dogs and they are 5 miles away. The young one is cut some but not real bad.
So I don't know exactly how far we ran this hog but it was along way.
This is why I don't want long winded, long running dogs....it almost never ends up with a caught hog, but often ends up with lost, stolen or injured dogs. Just my opinion...and what works for me. I do understand that y'all folks from TX and OK often have huge tracts of land to hunt consisting of hundreds or thousands of acres and a dog like that can sometimes be an asset....but just not for me. Glad y'all got you dogs back Mike.

I already had a yardful of dogs that would hunt from 300 to 600 yards around me and would roll out for several miles and a hog. If I didn't see a dog in 10 minutes it was time to pull the tracker. Sometimes the dogs were bayed 3 ranches over. I loved those type of dogs but like you said... I worried about them getting shot, stolen, run over by a car, getting ate by a gator and the list goes on. Not to mention the fines for trespassing.
As the land gets divided and the tracts get smaller like I have seen happen over the years the hog dogs of tomorrow will be dogs that will catch a hog right away and these dogs will require running vests. JMO
