I got one of those New York pups. He caught at 4 months old on a small shoat and caught again at 7 months old on a boar. I have no doubt he will turn out to be an excellent hunter and catcher. I have another New York dog that is five years old and she too is a solid catch dog. Has the scars to prove it. She's retired now because my wife likes her too much. Just because they come out of New York doesn't mean they wont and can't hunt/catch.
TColt has a great point. You definitely should hunt with or atleast spend some time around the parents. There are some great guys here in South Texas that have amazing dogos. Some imported straight from Argentina. I have been fortunate enough to get to hunt with some of them. Good luck on your search.
