THAT is why I am a so uptight about ---TRAINING--- basic obedience--- I hate chasing a dog--- the way I do it is--- from puppy the minute them puppies start to eat I whistle at them my own tone--- once they get bigger i continue that and then grab a pocket full of treats---every time I whistle and that puppy comes to me I give him a treat I have very few issues with dogs coming when called--- I picked a whistle because I believe it carries further in the woods and they can tell when its me or someone else doing the whistle to--- I aint much for yelling so a whistle works better for me.

---- NOW---- the tricky part is when you call a dog and he doesn’t come  Angry  Angry  Angry--- no matter how mad and how frustrated you are Huh? Huh? Huh?--- once you get a hold of that dog YOU MUST NOT BEAT IT OR SCOLD HIM IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM---- you have to PRAISE him and be kind to the animal--- IF you happen to beat it or scold it in any way you have just walked 1000 feet backwards--- every time you call him he will think about that a$$whopping you handed to him--- IF you happen to be kind and give him a treat or even a nice rub down he will remember that and assimilate the word "COME" (or what ever word you pick) with a good thing and be eager to come to ya when called.

I go as far as to teach my dogs TWO more commands SIT and STAY Smiley Smiley Smiley--- if we get close to say a road or a house and I yell to my dogs to SIT and STAY while I go retrieve them it saves my dogs from the wheels of a car or a gun shot of the neighbor thinking his chickens are getting eaten by a yote or something.  VERY simple commands that take a puppy a few times to learn---

My dogs are much more than just hunting tools to me I enjoy EVERY aspect of caring to them--- from breeding, basic obedience, feeding, hunting and so on.

TAKES time and effort.

OH and dont chase him--- thats a game for a dog and he will just keep running---look at how puppies play it will teach u a lot.
