I would use a full choke, shooting a single shot 410 will make him a better shot IMO.  I started my son on that and i think he shoots better than me and he is 10.  I think when a kid shoots a single single shot they seem to try harder cus they know there is only 1 shot, and he won't go through as many rounds as a pump.
