vet told me to use the k.i.s.s. rule keep it simple stupid! ive heard from him and numerous other people if the dog can lick its own wound then leave it alone as long as the bleeding is under control. if the dog cannot lick its wound thoroughly clean it and apply "cut doctor" then staple it leavin a small hole at the bottom of the cut, barely big enough to stick ur pinky in......this is to let the fluids properly drain and prevent infections.
