On a lot that small, whether you build it to the front or back won't make much difference. You're still going to hear them, and smell them. I would build it closer so when they bark you can easily open the door and holler at them.
My kennels are about 800 yards from the house and I can still hear the dogs pretty loudly at times. Problem is, I can't holler at them to shut up at that distance. If I get on the golf cart and drive down there, they shut up when they see me coming.
When building them I would also consider which way you face them (for winter south winds) and place them in a direction that will provide them with the most shade.
