jaw catchers

I got an AB that since day one has always caught on the jaw. he has never ever caught any where else. Now with that said, he caught hogs for us for 3 years and never not one time got cut . IMO, it is just hard for a hog to cut a dog on his jaw, the dog has way more control over the hog. Now I said he caught for 3 years, he is now retired due to the fact, IMO, because he caught on the jaw. you see if a dog catches on the ear, and he is hard caught like most good catch dogs and a big hog, lets say runs him into a tree face first trying to drag him off, most of the time the worst case is the ear will rip out and the dog has to recatch. Well Diesl (CD) caught a 275lb black barr hog on the jaw. to make matters worse we turned him loose at about 20 yards looking at the hog but just as he got there the hog tried to break but as the hog broke Diesl caught the hog on the jaw in a run and the barr ran him into a pine face first and it pulled both of his upper canine teeth out, well they were both pointing straight ahead . The vet put them back in , but it is hard to trust them any more so now he is a family pet and stud dog, who gets to eat good and chase critters around the yard. so like always there is pros and cons with every catch dog and how he catches. but IMO, if useing one catch dog the dog has more control over the hog on the jaw, but like we all know in certain situations every dog gets a curve ball thrown at them and we just thank God for the three years we got to enjoy watching him work.
