Ivomec stops new heartworms from producing which then does not reinfect the heart. The present adult heartworms then die with no reinfestation. Dog is now heartworm negative. As for the worms dying n then causing death it is possible but it is also possible it happens when u take ur heartworm positive dog to vet n he gives it "treatment" to kill heartworms.   Actually more likely then.
