I got ya, I was thinking that was your bay horse that you work cows off of.
Those cholla (choya) cactus that look like a sausage link are pretty interesting. They break off in small segments and are EXTREMELY painful. I have seen then attached to tires, dogs and even cows noses (which is pretty interesting to watch I might add). I had a small segment on the back of my hunting boots once and did not know it. Well while walking I knelt down to look at what I thought was an arrow head and when I got back up I rocked back on my heals and burried that piece of cholla in my right ass cheak!! It hurt so bad I thought I was gonna throw up. Mind you I have thick Carhart pants on and this thing has gone through the double layer pocket area. I tried to pull it out and I couldnt so I finally had to run my hand down inside my drawers and push from that direction till it let go and then took pliers to remove it from my pants. After that I dont think I have even walked by one where I dont think about how bad they hurt haha
The prickly pear have their own annoyance in that the big spines hurt but the small hair like fibers that you don't even notice initially cause severe pain and irritation days after they are in your skin and easily go through blue jeans. Just another reason to love Texas I guess
