The dog may do great, but the chances of finding a dog that is of the same caliber is gonna be against you. The dog also may not reproduce himself well and you just spent alot of time and money on nothing. Lots of people talk about starting lines but few truly know what it takes. It takes lots of time, patience and money because you'll be keeping a lot of puppies to cull through. Not to mention you might get 4-5 years down the road and realize this ain't what you had in mind regarding how the dogs are turning out vs the cull ratio, then your back to square one.
In the end it boils down to what you want and how hard you're wanting to work for it.
