Why couldn't you take seat belt material and overlap the strips and sew them together until you have a nice big piece of material then cut your pattern from that? It would be real light. I was playing around with a piece of seat belt (don't know what make vehicle it came out of)
and was poking it with a knife and it took a lot of effort to poke through it.
