I agree Chance. I think a more intelligent dog can move a track faster also. They just have less misses. Ive seen young or just souped up, fast as heck dogs stay "missed" on a track more than they are moving it. Ive seen old worn out, slow as heck dogs outfind em all. Same with the smart young dogs.

It goes nacb to my first comment on this thread about how their brain is using that information the nose is getting.

Folks with open dogs had an advantage over the silent dog people before the Garmin came around. Just by listening and knowing their dogs, they could tell what dog was out front, what dog was bringing up the rear, and what dog had missed or lost the track.
The Garmin will tell the tale most of the time or at least help you put the story together with what you see and hear on a hunt.
