How many is not as important as what kind. You want dogs that back up and give the hog its space if its not moving. If the hog tries to run they need to grab rear.
A majority of the time when I bay and shoot the dogs are backed up barking at a clump of brush, wolf grass, or some kind of cover. I end up just standing and watching patiently. Usually the hog or one of the hogs will pop out to look around. That is the one you shoot. I regularly bay up multiple hogs. The hogs usually clump up in cover and the dogs will back up 10, 15 yds and just bark. The dogs kind of spread out and circle them. If you have ever seen cattle group up with dogs or when coyotes are around... Hogs are almost identical. Very, very seldon do i have to make a shot where the dog is 5yds or closer.
