For us, its until we get at least 50 or 60 yards from the bay and then turn the catch dog loose so he doesn't have to stay caught too long. Which helps reduce the number of times that the dogs get cut.

 If we have pups on the ground, we may let them bay the hog for a bit before we turn the catch dog loose.
