I think the debate stems from peoples desire to produce better dogs, some see what they like in one breed and cheer it on. Some people just like to argue and/or debate. If you crossed enough 1/2 breeds to call them a new breed there would simply be those who liked them better than either cat's or BMC's and we would have another group cheering them on and believing they were the best. Nothing would change. If there were only one dog breed humans would find and/or breed different strains, colors , styles and argue/debate about those lines and traits.
