Hogs travel yes, but most people free range hogs on larges acres and where it can be done with minimum damage to surrounding areas. Usually it's a few guys running marks in an area and we respect each others marks. Same as a cow when you hit it, but good luck trying proving that specific hog did the damage. I just simply asked for a phone call if someone knew it was mine.
This is just something I grew up around, and marked hogs have caused as many fights and killing scrapes where I come from as divorces
