I'd say just run him with one other dog that'll catch with him, and possibly a super loose baying dog just for another way of tracking to him when he catches. If he wants to hunt let him have at it, my thought is if he goes to getting beat up to bad he'll either learn to back up, and wait to catch til you get there, or at least a couple locater barks to draw some help to him before he catches.
