I have access to some long and narrow islands to hunt. 3 or 4 pieces that are a couple miles long X 1/4 mile wide or so. Surrounded by water. The Islands are a mix of oak ridges, cypress sloughs, and palmetto. I am kicking around the idea of getting a coon hound pup. I know some of you coon hunt so maybe you can answer a few questions.
1. Any cons to raising a hound on the same yard as my curs ?
2. Can I raise and train just 1 hound to hunt. I really don't want anymore than 1, so am I wasting my time or is it possible with just 1 dog
3. If I get a pup, how long before I can start bringing to the woods?
4. Do male hounds hunt or handle any different than female hounds?
5. I've always liked the look of them long eared Blue Ticks and them Black and Tans, any cons to either breed?

5 owned every hound breed and black and tans really worked for me, i leaned more to plotts cause they handle alittle better IMO
